..... NEWS FOR 2019 TOUR!......I am taking my paintED.Tour to FRANCE again.......with NICE as the city location and Aix en Provence as a regional contrast. Our focus artist will be PAUL CEZANNE, who painted many landscapes around Aix...& his studio is located there & open to a visit from us!! ..............
REPORT>>>>>>>> Well.....we had a fantastic tour to NICE and AIX EN PROVENCE in September 2019....with very kind and warm weather, ideal for working onsite. The highlight was certainly our visit to CEZANNE'S STUDIO in Aix, where we 'drank it all in'! It's a classic 2 storey French country house, with the whole first floor as his studio. He built this house and garden to his own design, but only used it in the last 4 years of his life. A short walk further up the hill - and there is his beloved Mont St. Victoire! What a powerful shape....I understand why he was obsessed with it! The city goes back to Roman times.....beautiful architecture and lots of fountains. The old town provided us with innumerable choices to sketch and paint. Nice also has a beautiful old town centre.....again - lots of subjects - but also the famous beach and the Promenade des Anglais! Photos at the left show a range of locations, my students at work and some examples of the work I did on tour.
Below is the interior of Cezanne's studio.....many of his still life objects, furniture, easels, personal possessions and his hat and coat hanging on the back wall!!
