"With the development of my watercolour painting over the last few years, I have found that my style has become more fluid and loose...the use of water soluble inks have aided me in this, and I teach theses methods in my painting classes, The mixture of the two media together has produced an exciting new level to my work and enabled me to intensify my values and textures in my work. On occasion, I also incorporate the use of charcoal as an initial starting point, then adding inks and watercolours. As the charcoal dissolves into the mix, it is possible to obtain some beautiful textures, as the charcoal granulates into the wash. I find that this method is suitable for only certain subjects though, where earth tones are most prevalent in the subject....so architecture, boats, interiors with figures included work well with this treatment. My work from my recent tours to Italy & France have been worked in this way, which are well suited to the textures and strong light and shade that I experienced there. Of course, I still work mainly in traditional watercolour techniques in my personal studio paintings....the beauty of this medium always brings me back to it in its purest form."
Maxine is currently teaching regular classes (SEE HOME PAGE FOR DETAILS & LOCATIONS) in watercolour painting, mixed media, drawing & life drawing.... together with demonstrations and workshops in.
